Omega-3 Supplements

Omega 3 fatty acids are in a category of healthy fats known as the essential fatty acids (EFAs). There are three major Omega 3 fatty acids and they are:

• Alpha linolenic acid (ALA) (not to be confused with alpha lipoic acid)
• Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
• Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)

EPA and DHA are much more easily utilized by the body, and ALA will convert in the body to either of these EFAs.

Diets rich in Omega 3 fatty acids may be beneficial for proper heart and cardiovascular health, reduce inflammation of joints, and they may even combat certain forms of cancer. Since the brain and eyes are made of mostly fat, supplementing with Omega 3 fatty acids can improve brain and cognitive function, enhance memory and even promote optimal eyesight and eye function.

While fat mostly gets a bad name, clearly the Omega 3 fatty acids are essential to optimal health and wellness.
