The sport of mixed martial arts has exploded into mainstream sports and entertainment. Widley viewed as some of the toughest and most durable athletes in the world, mma fighters put their bodies thru an unbelievable amount of torture in preparation for each battle. MMA is a combination of several different martial art fighting disciplines. Brazilian Jiujitsu, Thai Boxing, wrestling and boxing are just a few combat arts that are represented in each mma fight. Many people call mixed martial arts the decathlon of combat sports. With so many different martial art disciplines involved, the MMA athlete must train daily in these arts as well as strength and conditioning routines. With so much on the table, many fighters become overstrained and injured before most competitions. Most MMA fighters understand the importance of nutrition but many come up short when it comes to supplementation.
With such a close competitive sport like MMA the difference from winning and loosing is very small. Performance is everything especially when guys are using MMA as a way to pay their bills and provide for their families. With two training sessions a day and long gruling workouts, we believe that proper recovery is an essential part of being a successful fighter. One key supplement that should be in every MMA fighters toolbox should be BCAA's. Branch chain amino acids are essential and unlike other amino acids cannot be made in the human body. BCAAs are isoleucine, leucine, and valine. This super supplement is needed for building protein and can be used as an energy source during intense exercise. Here are a few benefits of BCAAs supplementation:
Decreases muscle breakdown
Increase lean muscle mass
Reduces muscle soreness and damage from exercise
Improves immune function
Enhances athletic performance
BCAAs are a very attractive substance for the drug tested athlete. Many athletes are having success using 5 grams of BCAAs 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after each training session. On non training days it is highly recommended that mixed martial artists still consume these muscle boosting aminos. Using a dose of 5 grams in the morning along with 5 grams before bed to help further enhance muscle recovery. Whey Protein, glutamine, and creatine are also great sports nutritional supplements that can be used with BCAAs to help all fighter's reach their goals and perform at an elite level.
